Comic Organizing

Post by Viktor (Macrotis) on Wed Jun 01, 2016 9:39 pm

Okay, so, we need a way to show everyone's comics. While we could make a subforum for each person, that could end up being a lot of subforums. So, I'm taking suggestions on how to organize that. Fire away, guys.

EDIT FOR UPDATE:
Genre groupings seem to be final. Unless one forum is overloaded, nothing is going to change. This thread will remain open for questions about the genre groupings, but please don't use this thread to ask what genre your comic would belong in. You know your comic best, after all.
We will not be adding any new forums. If you want a new forum, then understand that unless you have an incredibly good reason, it will not be added.

The mods for each forum are as follows:
Services Viktor
Sci-Fi/Fantasy Koffy
Slice of Life/Gaming Kkyuk0
Action/Drama Kkyuk0
Romance/Comedy Koffy
Horror/Mystery Viktor

Please contact a mod if you have any questions or concerns about the forums they moderate.

Make one subforum and all creators get onetopic

I agree with Koffy.

There could be a subforum for promotion and a different one for critiques and people wanting suggesting.

And there could be another one which is about collabs, art/writer requests. or looking for guest artist.

Perhaps genre in order to organize types of series. Using the genra that is most prominent in your series of course. Since there are series that have multiple genra settings

That could be cool, and creators could have a topic for each comic based on genre that they have. and of course allows for people to look for comics based on what they like.

My thing about giving everyone just one topic to put all their comics in is that by the end of it, it's going to be pretty difficult to navigate through.
Even if you have just two series, lets say you end up with 10 pages on your topic. It's going to be hard to navigate through the pages trying to find which help goes with which series.

I suggest putting it as
Userlist >> User >> Comics

With comics being the actual thread

that would work early on, but i feel as we grow that might become very tedious especially for mods.

I like the genre idea. I might do it by slice of life, action, whatever. (Suggestions on genres is good too!)

If all else fails, I might just do alphabetical groups, or maybe one topic that's a list, and then other people can make threads if they want to get feedback, spitball, or whatever.

@Koffy - if we have mods, would it be easier to have mods in charge for every section?

I think I might go with tapastic's genres, but maybe put the similar ones together. I don't want to deal with 10 different forums. Maybe 5, tops.
How does this sound to you guys?
Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Slice of Life/Gaming
Romance/Drama
Action/Comedy
Horror/Mystery

As for mods, I'll be picking them when I get to know everyone a little more. I want to have mods I can trust.

Yeah, those got left over and just kinda... ended up together. I was considering switching drama and action, but I don't know.

Romance and comedy would go nicely together XD
I was thinking slice of life with comedy but you added gaming and that, i dont think, should switch.

I was tempted to nix gaming, but it was on tapastic and I thought, 'may as well.'

I'll do romance/comedy and action/drama then. Good idea, Koffy and Angel.

Does anyone have a comic under "Gaming"? If not then we could temporaily remove it, or give one of the bigger genres (like action or romance) its own section

Romance and Comedy grouped together?

Post by jono_thompson on Tue Jul 12, 2016 7:36 pm

I noticed in the forum groups that Romance and Comedy are together, just wondering why this is - because my webcomic wouldn't be grouped with romance - it's purely 'gag' comedy comic strips

Call it something simple like ETC

Pick ONE. Pick the primary one. Doing this is a good exercise in learning to describe your comic. Just because your comic contains multiple genres does not mean that you can put it in a misc. category.

Example: the comic I'm working on now is a sci-fi comedy, with elements of action and drama. The most important genre is sci-fi, because not only is it the setting, but it's also the source of most of the jokes.

The basic answer is that we had no better genres to stick together. Those two got the short end of the stick and ended up together. We tried to make a better pair, but Action and Drama ended up being very nice partnered together and... well... Sorry! Don't worry, people will understand. The genre groupings are pretty arbitrary anyway, and are basically done so we wouldn't have a forum for each genre.
